PADI TEC 40 DIVER The first step of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver course

The PADI Tec 40 Course with Tech Asia

If you're interested in technical diving but haven't yet met the prerequisites for the PADI Tec 45 or Tec 50 Diver courses, you can get a start with Tec 40. The course will lay out all the basic concepts of tech diving you'll need as you go forwards and take you through procedures for decompression dives down to 40m. Within the boundaries set in training this can allow you to almost double your bottom time at depths in the upper end of the range, those approaching 40m/130ft., where you may never have been able to spend long enough to appreciate the dive sites before Take the first step... get in touch with us!

Course options

This course can be taken using air or trimix as a bottom gas. Whilst air as a breathing gas has long been regarded as acceptable at these depths by many, the latest research and evidence shows that whilst using air at 40 meters gas narcosis and density can pose high levels of risk to the diver. The use of Trimix reduces these risks and is recommended. Course fees are based on air as the primary breathing gas, if you wish to use Trimix there will be an additional charge for the gas, please ask us for a quotation.

Duration and Scope of the Course

Best taken over three days, the course includes self-study via PADI’s eLearning platform. There are three knowledge development sessions, three practical applications, one confined water and three training dives. It will show you how to:

  • Use decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives with no more than 10 minutes of total decompression and not deeper than 40 metres/130 feet.
  • Use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to add conservatism to the required decompression.

If Tec the 40, 45 & 50 courses are all taken at the same time, training duration typically comes down six days with all knowledge development completed via eLearning prior to your arrival.

Equipment and what is Included

Equipment can be kept simple, using a recreational configuration with some additions to increase safety on the dives you will be making. However if your intent is to progress further in technical diving it is better to start here with a full technical configuration of either backmounted double tanks, or combine your training with Tec Sidemount if that is what interests you. If you are ready to learn with this now it will help you as you progress.

You can find details of what is included in all PADI courses on the Overview page and course prices here.
